TRC - BiSight Camera Platform

Platform characteristics

The TRC BiSight 2- and 4-axis camera platforms were designed by TRC in cooperation with a consortium of four research laboratories - University of Pennsylvania, University of Rochester, University of Maryland and University of Massachusetts. The list price of the 4-axis head is $43,500, the 2-axis head is $23,000 (discounts (10%) are available for academic institutions). The platform was designed with SONY XC77-RR CCD cameras and Fujinon motorized lenses (10x zoom) in mind, but other components can be accommodated. The cost of the lenses and cameras is not included ($2,000/camera and $1500/lens). The system comes with a Delta Tau PMAC control interface. The pan axes can achieve a peak velocity of 1000 degrees per second and a peak acceleration of 12,000 degrees per second squared while maintaining a precision of 2 minutes of arc. The head pan and tilt axes can achieve peak velocity/acceleration performance of 650/1350 and 500/1350, respectively. The 2-axis head weighs under 6 pounds, light enough to be mounted on a PUMA 560.

There are several of these platforms installed at universities in the US and Europe.
