Lenna Redux

 

 

The organizers of the 50^th anniversary meeting of The Society of Imaging Science and Technology took the opportunity to recognize Lenna as befitting her Internet icon status. There is an anniversary website for the 1997 event.

 

As has been suggested, measures of skin representation might be better cast if we also took the opportunity to obtain a new Lenna image, one captured under more controlled and documented conditions, and one more representative of actual skin appearance (c.f., a contemporary Lenna image). It might be useful in the process of adopting a new image standard to take the opportunity to more specifically determine the requirements of what should be represented. It would also be useful to provide utilities that determine to what extent those properties have been preserved in a given image and, specifically, are they adequate to support the chosen intent for the image.
